burning clutch

my clutch starts to burn when i step on the gas. i got a brand new 6.5hp clone and a new clutch, and i have no idea whats wrong with it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe your idles set to high. it could be a variety of problems

i dont know, when it idles the chain make a clinking sound and i think thats normal isnt it?

maybe you clutch and sprocket are out of position with each other. they should be parallel with each other

i have 60 teeth on the axle and 10 teeth on the clutch and i have 18 inch tires

there is a picture part way down the page where it says Slide the clutch on the engine crankshaft.

That is normal centrifugal clutch noise.

Is this a new kart and first time driving it? If not, what was the old setup like? I think that your gear ratio is too high for that clutch to handle with those large rear tires. You need a larger rear sprocket (will require longer chain, too), or a torque converter, IMO.

The only problem that I see with attempting to install a larger rear sprocket is that metal sprocket protection guard will be in the way. You will have to either modify or eliminate it.

Overheated clutch is always indicative of an overloaded condition.
Straight through clutches are common place. Known as bi-directional and can be used with sprocket inboard OR outboard.

Yeah, agreed. I have used them mounted both ways as well. I flipped one on a kart to eliminate the jackshaft once. Worked perfectly. Made the kart MUCH faster, but I had tiny rear tires.

I've got nothing much to say, Metal had it right. Russ is on key as usual.

Its just a problem that your back tires are too large, if you downsize to 15x6.00-6 tires you'll notice this problem is fixed, you have however significantly shortened the lifespan of the clutch running it at all at this point. If you want performance just like Metal said you'll be needing to go with a Torque Converter to keep the current size of tires.
