Hey all, so I've decided to build a go kart. I downloaded the plans for the tarantula/scorpion kart from spider karts, and im currently pricing out tubing for the frame and am looking at engines. The first set of suggestions i have are mostly about the engine. I was considering grabbing a predator 420cc hemi because i can grab it off amazon. Is there anything wrong with that selection? I'm not looking to race, i just want something powerful enough to be fun. And, how exactly does reverse work? Can i set up any kart to reverse or would that change my engine options? I can weld and fabricate but engines are completely foreign to me. Thanks for the help!

Hello and welcome....
The 420 is a big block and will typically have a 1" shaft. You'll have to accommodate that when buying the TC.
The reverse is a separate item as it isnt integral with TC or the engine itself... They vary in size and description, on how they are mounted.
Howabout some pics on what you are building....

Thanks for the reply! I'll post pics as soon as i have something to post. The only thing I've got right now are the plans. I haven't really even finalized my budget. What are the thoughts on the honda gx 340? It's pricier than the predator but it looks like it's beefier and harbor freight sets my spidey senses tingling. Is there such a thing as too much engine?

340 still a big block... 420 would be better as it has more power a bit more mods out there for that model...

They don't have one pic of the thing that's in focus. That's pretty shabby for 2019...:ack2:

Pretty neat though.

Ok I see, interesting...
Are the front wheels independant, or connected with the front half???

The thing is hinged in the middle! :D well, hinged at the rear 1/3rd.

Looks like the front wheels are integral with the front 2/3rds and rigid mounted.

Pfffft. Sorry, OP.

Im no expert on the offroading aspect... but I can assume that if you keep it in the parameters of what this machine is capable then a frontal upgrade probably wont be necessary....
