im using springs i have different lengths i am using a shifter not a pedal it has a positive lock on it so when ya take off ya push it down it will be solid linkage but have springs to absorb shock to keep from snapping the belts

65hp, 2 slippy belts = where's my belts and what's that smell? ;)

I like the idea of trying something different, that's how we all learn but the cooling and gearing issues make this one a eyebrow raiser.

On the other hand if you're having fun, do it anyway and solve the issues as you go.

If the belts do not work. Could you put a sled clutch on the engines pto shaft? Then put the drivin on the jack shaft with sprockets and chain to the axle.

you how a riding lawn mower works its the same principle they use one kevlar belt for racing on a 27hp engine and works fine

as you give it gas you tighten up the belts and starts to roll then take off once ya get to moving ya will be rolling slow due to the gear reduction i have im not worried about going fast 38mph is plenty i want to be able to climb hills and such

yes i designed the jack shaft where i could possibly adapt a torque converter i just never fond of them because of they seem like they bog when wanting to floor it

jet skis have a rev limiter that cuts out at around 6500 to 7100rpm due to when hull is out of water it will not over rev engine on snowmobiles some dont have any. mine should be at 6800 or 7100 not sure what box i have yet

Not to be overly critical, but, first off, 27hp is much different from 65hp. Giving it gas and as it starts to roll is belt slippage. This is where you may have serious issues with belts turning to smoke. Going into a hill will place extra load on the belts, and, again, risk smoking them. I'm not saying don't do it, it just wouldn't be my first choice of powering a kart. What size is the PTO on the motor?

I mentioned that either early in this thread, or the other one. Personally, that's what I would do. I would say there's a very good chance of being able to get away with it...

Regarding the lawnmower thing- I have no idea how many HP a typical race mower makes, but I'm having a tough time believing 27hp. Regardless, I personally guarantee these mowers weigh a helluva lot less than your kart will.

Now- What's troubling you with the steering?

what is the best method to use in placing the steering shaft and wheel?

i would co and pull the rack & pinion steering outta a car

take the steering liknkage and wheel as well

as for engageing a large tensioner clutch u will slowly but firmly pull it into gear at idle or nere on

when the belts have got grip u can then slowly built up revs

i know this idea of a tensioner will work but u cant do any burnouts and no flooring it because rather than the typical spinning of wheels u will just spin the belts

there is few reasons why this wont work but u will have to be very careful and go slow

Besides if Hotrodchevy83's idea dosen't work.(wich could work if done right) he can just sell one of his jet ski engines and have plenty of money to get a sled cvt. and is it going to be 2or 1seat?

I won't say they don't slip, but they tension in a completely different way. You can gun a TC and not worry about your belt turning into a cloud of smoke and black dust everywhere.
