hello im starting to build a go gart from scratch and going to adapt a 65 horsepower jetski motor on it it will have full suspension and 26 inch tires on the back. since the jetski motor does have a transmission i will be using a double belts for the clutch system then to a jack shaft to two #40 chain sprockets. so my questions are how well does the manual 9 inch rotor disc brake work with large tires? will the jetski motor have enough torque. Will the belt system work good as a clutch? How much spring pressure will i need? i have the base frame built and the engine sitting on it. will have pics soon need help Please

i would def. think your torque and hp will be PLENTY. The brake I dont really know, maybe use 2? I am curious to see what kind of mechanism you use to cool the engine, being that a jetski motor would be water cooled, at least all of the ones ive seen are. You will have to use some form of a radiator, custom run your hoses. You have quite a build ahead of you sir. Anxious to see what comes of it. If it was me, I would consider using the cooling system off of a liquid cooled ATV (raptor, Z400, etc) finding a junk bike may not be too hard if you look in the right places, maybe even a wrecked one that you could be lucky enough to salvage a cooling system off of. and if you get one your brake problwm will be solved, use the axle brake off the rear, and front discs. It'd be more than you need :wai:

Is that a flexible coupler joining the engine to the primary shaft? I'm thinking your engines gonna move around quite a bit on those rubber shock mounts...

that coupling and motor mounts come straight out of jet so did the shaft it was exactly 3/4 of inch so i had a keyway cut in it

ill make a surgestion
some will disagree

i think u should sell that jet ski motor and trade it for a 600cc bike engine

reasons why
*made for the job
*better toque
*better cooling
*got gearbox
*this motor is probs worth more than bike equivilant

i have no idea of your age or wealth but this has the potencial to be awsomely fast and good off road but with this engine it will be slow and cook belts
also u should look into IRS (indipentant rear suspension) but that is really just a cool accsesory

but serousluy this has the potencial and u seem to have the potencial to build it

I agree with you seems like a much better option than possibly ruining a motor that you could sell and get way way more money for

Water provides very little resistance compared to the rolling resistance of a kart, possibly facing uphill.
