Building a Go-Kart (Gear Ratio and Fuel)

Hi guys, I'm planning to build a Go-Kart with 6.5hp,3600 torque and 196cc.

What gear ratio should I use? Where can I find cheap axles?
And which fuel should I use?

Can I use 1:1 gear ratio? If I can't, why?

Sizes rear and front tires?

And what's the top speed?

6:1 ratio is what you want. 1:1 no go...

You should use cooking oil as your fuel :D error Gasoline...

Cheap Axle... Were the heck do you live?

And the tire size too?
If I go 1:6, it will be 23mph and thats too slow.

1:5 ratio, 1 on clutch and 5 on axle. Size of tires??? :D

And can't I just mop cleaner handle as axle lol.

With 15" tires it says 32mp/h. But 15" is too big.

Aha there's something wrong with that calculator you should be getting around 40 mph with a 5:1 ratio just from experience...

Edit: I've got a 5:1 ratio on my kart and it kicks out about 45 mph with 12" Tire's...

Strange :S So what's best for me? 4:1 ratio or 5:1? Axles? And tire size?
In another calculator, it says 32mph with 15" but 15" is off-road and too big. I'm planning to use 7.87" or 10" but gives really low speed.

3600 rpm not torgue (torque would be around 9 Nm or so)

why you can't go 1:1? because you need 6 times that torque to move a rather lightweight vehicle around!

Oh and pleaaaase at least put your ratios in correct order 6:1 not 1:6 !!

but yeah 6:1 for rear tyres no bigger than 15" in diameter (I'd personally say no bigger than 13" tbh.. but 15" is consense ;))
for a kart (incl rider) that's not heavier than 300 lbs roughly

front tyres are up to you (but it'd look weird if they're larger ;))

Thank you guys, sorry for ratio order :D 1 for clutch, 6 for axle and 8.7-10" tires. But still too slow?

yeah, it's too slow it always is.. [/sarcasm]

Anyways, 11" rears, ten are very difficult to find and will cause some nasty side effects
(namely a clearance issue with the axle sprocket w/o compound gearing which we wouldn't advise when not really needed)

keep in mind that a rear axle sprocket with a single stage 6:1 gear reduction will be around 9 or even 10 inches in diameter (8.8 for a #35 chain and 9.8 for a #40)

and yes 11" , 6:1 ratio and a 3600 rpm engine means ~20mph

plenty of fun actually, but we see them pubertarians moan about such a number quite often.
do it first, judge later ...
anyways, when too slow, remove the governor (DO NOT BYPASS IT!!)
and voila 5500 rpms instead of just 3600 and 30mph instead of 20..

still too slow?
well then install a TC instead of just a cent clutch (10% overdrive) you can even reduce the ratio to 5:1 with a TC and there you are.. 40mph!
