I can turn a flathead 9000 all day. 7000 is cake work with a stock carb even. My limited flathead floated valves at 8700 or so. 98exp dyno cam which is around a .450 or so lift, lightened/clearanced crank, 10 over with a 4.500 arc rod, mod head, 5 HP billet flywheel, and a Tilly carb on methanol. This was a stock stroke and stock valve motor. A 7x cam will pull to right at 7000 and is a stock lift cam. What ever cam you choose get billet lifters and good valve spring retainers.

Well I came across a block, but.... The coil mount bolts have been ground down severely, it appears someone stripped the bolts so they cut the coil. If I can manage to remount a coil it may be a good block, I have yet to take the pto cover off yet. Machining of the head seems to be set for the weekend, and I'm considering machining my own connecting rod :) I'll try and get pics up tonight of the block

I haven't started building my flatheads yet (just hoarding them at this point) but I have done some research and there are many ways to go about it. Jimmy Glenn's book is a good source of information. There are slapper cams ,controlled lift cams, a lot of different stroke rods, the list goes on and on. I was told if you run methanol you have to drain your engine after every use and flush it with gas as it is extremely corrosive so that's kind of out for me because I don't need the hassle. I would be curious to know what the max hp a flathead can make on gas is?

Id rather put the money towards something like valve springs than the book
