I have a 150cc buggy with a gy6 engine. I have the kill switch and lights disconnected. It's a three pin ignition but I only have two pins in as thats all I need to start it. I turn the key and it starts then I turn it off but it keeps going. Any help?

The system needs to be working as designed. Fix the wiring, reconnect/replace the kill switch or switches, replace or repair the ignition key cylinder. You've got hots crossed up somewhere bypassing the ignition cylinder. Get a test light and sort through it. Put everything back to as factory as possible, it had to have worked correctly at one time. You'll need to find out what brand of kart it is and get the correct schematic, otherwise plan on spending some diagnostic time.

IT. IS. BECAUSE. YOUR. KILL. SWITCH. IS. DISCONNECTED.

IT IS CALLED A KILL SWITCH FOR A REASON. IT SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF. YOURS IS UNHOOKED. SO THE ENGINE DOES NOT SHUT OFF.

Disconnecting the battery does nothing because the engine has a charging coil. It makes its own electricity to charge the battery and do other convenient things like run the ignition system.

Somebody say, "Amen!"
I was trying to be subtle in my first post, apparently I was too subtle.

It appears the guy is trying to figure out why his key switch doesn't turn off his machine. That's not unreasonable, many machines have that capability.

Depending on the machine it's entirely possible that the kill switch circuit and key switch circuit are independent of each other.

Maybe in the past someone changed the switch and or hacked some wires.

The guy just asked for help. Maybe it's more important to be sarcastic know it alls than actually help.

Or maybe just be a prick to other members who are actually helping, just not as obviously.

I apologize if I offended anyone or came across as a wise guy, certainly wasn't my intention. My suggestion is to put everything back as close as possible to the original factory setup to hopefully start with a clean slate to begin diagnosing the problem. The key still needs to be able to shut the engine off even with functioning kill switches, having everything in place as intended (if possible)should help narrow down the problem. A factory schematic would be ideal but finding one could be a challenge.

Thanks

New here but had a moment of this with my Streaker rehab.

The Predator and similar small engines have a magneto ignition. The current to fire the plug is generated by the rotation of the engine. With the switch on, the switch is open, and engine rotation sends current to the sparkplug. With the switch off, the switch is closed and the ignition current is sent to ground and theres not enough to fire the plug. The opposite of most automotive stuff.

I put a switch in series with the predator off switch, and with both in the on position, as marked, turning the second switch off had no effect. it kept running. Thinking it through, with the first switch open, closing the second one had no effect. Turning the first one off allows the second switch to control the engine.

Check into this.
