Budget Shifter Kart

Hello so I have a 1999 Tony Kart Extreme and I'm looking to find a cheap engine to put in it just to have some fun well I build a CR125 to put in it. I have been looking at the Piranha 140cc 4speed in it but I'm not sure if it will push me. I am 200lb and would be happy if it would do 45-50. Any info would be awesome and I am definitely interested in any suggestions! Thanks guys

What? That's not how it works. The "4 speed shifter" is integral to the engine.

A cheap predator with an intake, exhaust, rejet, and governor removed would scoot you around just fine. A plain old clutch would suffice. There's absolutely no need for a juggernaut driver... If you wanted to use a plain Jane TAV2 you could, but it'd be a tight squeeze.

You'd have to put a mount plate for an industrial engine...

Another option would be something like a 125cc 4 stroke pit bike engine... Not as cheap an option, but it'd be simpler to mount and plenty fast - give you the shifter kart feel and the nice compact engine.

The Piranha 140cc 4speed is a pit bike engine and it's only about 400bucks brand new. You think that would be strong enough?

They make something like 10 HP. I've seen figures as high as 11-13. That engine should get you your 50mph goal right out of the box if you gear it right.

After how many recommendations of a Juggernaut do you get a free one? I'm thinking maybe this is a bandwagon I DO want to jump on! Lol

If you want to go REALLY fast, use a 200cc 5 speed, that will get you up to at LEAST 60 but that depends on your budget, these are 600$ and make about 16-18hp and also how concerned with safety. If you do, please put a harness on it and wear a helmet

LMFAO obviously you don't really know what you're talking about here.

Shifter karts normally run with 40+ hp engines at speeds over 100 mph, hence the 4 wheel hydraulic brakes.

And a harness on a kart that hasn't got a ROPS is a HORRIBLE idea.

I still need to order a sprocket hub what size sprockets you think I should get?

If you want higher top speed, go for a smaller sprocket like a 50 tooth or something, for a slower top speed but higher torque, go for a 60 or 70 tooth

It really depends how the thing is geared. Being a bike engine, it's meant to spin quite a large tire, so you might need to look as low as a 1:2 or even 1:1 ratio. Really need to know the internal gear ratios and oem sprocket size.

I'm going to try a 15t on the engine and 25t on my axle
