If I pop another pin then too short. Guess I could just move engine back. At least I did put in center. Would getting a half link be best? Do I connect a master with a half link?

Yes those are the half links and yes you connect them to the master.

Sliding the engine is how you set the chain tension.
Slide it all the way back and make the chain to the closest link.
Then slide the engine foward till you have about a chain width of up and down free play.

The half links are for when you don't have enough slide travel for a whole link.

I don't know your kart geometry or whether the engine should move forward or back to take up chain slack, but you should make your chain short to begin with so that as it stretches and wears, you move the engine back to take up the slack. I buy chain in like 10-20 foot lengths. I don't buy package deals with a chain breaker in each one. You might do better buying some quality chain from MFG Supply (or wherever). This "Amazon everything" is really giving me the ICK. :ack2:

Make sure you have some chain slack at all times.

EDIT: Jinx, WTR beat me.

So YouTube tells me to put on half link then master link. Wish I had watched the right videos before I took off wrong end of chain. Live and learn. Will try again tomorrow

NOW THAT IS FUNNY! Its raining today and I don't have a workshop so I might actually do some work to pay for this stuff. I have to ask again about this tube welded on frame--is this a flag holder? Is it missing something or do I need to drill a screw thru it to hold a flag? What is it? No pics on youtube show anything attached to it1763656710416.png

Yes that is a flag holder for a bicycle safety flag (what it is best known as). I already answered this earlier but that is what it is. It’s a nice, well-engineered holder, better than the floppy, cheap, stamped steel brackets used on other karts/kart brands.

I suspect (on your Brister’s kart) the flag is held in by nothing but gravity and friction. The cheap ones also rely on friction and gravity but if I were you, I’d wrap the bottom of the flag pole with tape and jam it in the hole. You know how to do that, don’t you? 😛

You should want it easily removable I think, no tools needed.

Pro Tip: Clock your recoil starter assembly for easy trouble-free starting. Remove the 3 screws and rotate the starter assy until the handle points to 9-9:30 and reassemble. You’re supposed to pull the rope in a straight line from the little hole anyway so it doesn’t chafe itself and prematurely break and since it’ll be pointing at the rear of the kart, that‘s where you naturally stand to turn on the fuel petcock and operate the choke.

Make sure you hook up that kill switch I saw in earlier photos, that is very important. ☝️
