...

I don't understand this thing lol.

Do you guys think I can fit a predator engine in this frame?...

If you don't figure out how to get this thing running right, you will have the same problems with any engine. You cannot let this very simple engine "beat you".

Is your spark plug still black as night?

I got it running good but I just don't understand why it runs now lol. I cleaned the carb the same way each time. Its just a picky little sob! Hahaha

Got it to its top speed if 21mph lol.

And I haven't pulled the plug yet. Gonna let it sit overnight again and see if it starts tomorro.

It seems like when it sits it gives me problems that cleaned the carb fixes lol. Tired of pulling the carb out. Its prolly been out 6 times already haha.

I ran it for about a 2 miles down the roads today and it seemed good!

The one thing it still does tho is when I shut it off and want to start it again I have to choke it for 1 pull (doesnt start) and then turn tgr choke off and it starts right up. Very odd.. This is when the bike is warmed up.

It's all good. After having the engine apart in various ways, you have to verify that it is returned to factory settings and that everything is set to the proper settings, there's no vacuum leaks, the gaskets are in good order, you have fuel, spark and compression--all at the proper timing.

I would download this manual for basically any flathead Briggs. A wealth of information:

270962 Single Cylinder L-Head BRIGGS & STRATTON.pdf

Update: Engine does the same thing it always been doing now again after sitting overnight.. Runs for about 3 seconds and dies again.. I wonder if this could be electrical but it just seems to be not getting enough gas.. man this little thing is a picky mofo!

Pull the plug and take us a very closeup photo of it and post it. We need to see the firing end.

Yes, we have magicians who can "read" spark plugs like tea leaves and bones.

Looks rich to me. No gas would still have a fairly clean plug or a light gray to it.

Can you post a video of the plug attached to the wire and hold the plug to the cylinder and have someone help crank it over? Need to see the actual spark. Don't unground the plug while the flywheel is rotating. It's quite shocking!!

Will have to get that video tomorrow. Thanks for sticking with the thread. I was about to give up on it.

Don't ever give up. It'll be something simple-stupid in the end or just easy.

These are great engines and they were top of the line for their day.
Once we get your issues squared away, we can walk you through getting that stifling governator out of the block and get the engine churning better, you'll see. ;)

Here is a video of the spark plug

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uqsMKgEuJI

I got the bike to run today.. without changing anything from the other day which is frustrating me lol but it was cutting out on me..

I noticed it will do WOT without load while the bike is in the air and tire off the ground fine but when i am riding it around the street it will seem to cut out if you give it WOT for more than 3 sec or so and you have to back off the throttle and give it WOT again. Strange?

You guys think I should go ahead and order a diaphram gasket? The one looks fine and is plyable but that is the only thing that is left to check/replace?

I would. I would also soak the carb in something, a bit of varnish in a hard to get spot can cause a lot of trouble.

Update: Got another new plug and also a new diaphram gasket. Threw them on and rode it around and seemed to be doing better.. Will hve to try after it sits since that is when the problems are happening..

Also, i still have to start it with the choke on?

I put choke on, pull it (doesnt start) then turn choke off and it fires right up.. I cannot figure out why that happens?
