Briggs Problem. HELP!!!

Hey guys. My Briggs isnt running how it should. I will turn the throttle half way, or even full, and it stops at a certain rpm, then sputters, and spits out a ton of smoke.. The governor is off, starts up every time cold. Is it the air fuel mixture? Please help! Thanks!

Did you change the carb diaphragm recently? A good starting baseline on mixture is to gently tighten the mixture screw till it seats, then back it out a turn and a half. After that, make very small adjustments, like an 1/12 of a turn at a time, till she sounds good and doesn't sputter.

Would the Air/Fuel mixture be causing the motor exhaust to be very smoky?

depending on what color the smoke is, how cold it is outside, humidity levels and things like that. we need details to help more.

Yes, black smoke indicates a rich mixture. Blue/white smoke would be an oil problem.

Replace the diaphragm before you do anythin else. It will take less then 15 minutes and cost you under $5. It cleared my issue right up and I was at the point I was going to throw it in a lake.
