I have a snapper mower with a B&S 252707-0208-01, that is leaking gas from the carburetor from the spot i have pointed to in the pictures. i am wondering if anyone can help me out as to what is wrong with it, also wondering what that hole is even for?

Its in the bowl of the carb, it floats in the gas, and once the gas reaches a certain level it pushes against the needle valve and stop any more gas from entering the float bowl, good chance that yours is not stopping the gas, and its overfilling the bowl and seeping into the carb through the jets.

Could be a few different things

1. gummed up needle
2. rotted out needle tip
3. bad float full of gas

Best plan of attack is to buy a needle for a few bucks at the HW store and drop the bowl, clean the bowl if dirty, check that the float is not full of gas, and then swap the needle out, first cleaning the seat out really good with a Q-tip soaked in carb clean.
