briggs flatty oil leak.

my briggs 5hp flatty is running great. BUT i noticed alot of black oil on the horizontal fins of the engine. i just changed the oil a few days ago. i cant see where its comming out of. does anyone have experience with this problem before?

i would but i just dnt where it is coming frm.. it on the side of the cylinder.. too much to pinpoint where its coming from..

try cleaning it all off and see if any new oil comes leaking out...

i think it is comming out of the flywheel side.. in order to get the cover off i needa take off the engine.. i dnt have to time to right now.. do you guys have any ideas? hopefully not a crack.. mabey leaky head gasket? possibly blowby? idk.. just kinda pissd because i just got this thing running real strong again.. now its fu.cking up..

Sounds like a worn crank seal/bush on the flywheel side.

Well, you'l have to take the crank out, if it's just the seal then you'l just need to replace that. If its the bush then you'l need to get the old bush pressed out and a new one pressed in. Unless you've got a ball bearing block, that's pretty unlikely though.

take the flywheel off and see if it's leaking from there, see how much play it has too.

It takes about 1-2 hours to replace a seal on that side for an inexperienced person. If you are familiar with the internals of the briggs it can be done and running within 20 minutes.

yea i would just run it till i had a little time to fix it. just keep check on oil and dont let no one ride that dont take care off stuff like that. once i have a little yamaha bike that had an oil leak long story short my brother blew it up
