Just freshly rebuilt and cleaned up with a billet rod and lifters and a hot cam. The carb is the old pull-out style choke. I cleaned it out good and reassembled everything. The needle valve is set to 1.5 turns from seated position. Problem is, it idles just fine on half choke but dies on acceleration or full throttle when choke is off. It also won't get back to idle without dying. I also get flames out the exhaust when I rev it up which I assume is a lean condition. The carb is such a simple design and I've cleaned it and I've checked it over. I've chased the small holes with welding tip cleaning wires already. What could the problem be?

It still sounds as if the carb is dirty

the rectangle pulse diaphragm and spring? I get it though, I know that carb is clean been in it 3 times etc, O-rings mess me up, they look great, but mess with ya. replace them even when you think not! ive spent many hours on an engine that I knew had clean carbs. an o-ring kit and problem gone, but yes they really do look fine! Ive solved un fixable outboards from dealerships cuz of that. the main tube from carb to tank has seals? don't trust them/ air suction leak

ive also seen cracked imulssion tubes, that feed the venturi. don't give up, when ya figure it out its gonna be a fun time!
