Is the flywheel easy to get off?

For me?...no. For you?...unknown.
Do not pry or use heat. Wheel puller is not necessary. Shock is the best way.

Knowing the year and displacement will narrow your search to the correct housing/recoil.

If your town has an older lawn mower shop that's been open for years and years, you could just take your engine there.

Chances are they would be able to ID what briggs model you have just by a quick glance, and they would probably also have a good-used recoil-housing (w/mounting bolts) they would sell you for around $10 or so.

Cool, yeah I think my best bet would be to find to a shop like that and take it up there.
