Sand any rust off the shaft first, and gently work the cover off as straight as you can manage. Wiggling it a bit as you go may help, and some oil on the shaft wouldn't hurt either.

no i cant see anything! i sanded any rust and grease off the shaft but the bearing is sitting on some other little ''step'' on the crank but i got at that with the sand paper.

Grab the file and remove any heigh spots on the crankshaft. I had this happen to me 4 times. You probally ripped up the bearing/bushing already from trying to force it. If you cant take it off by hand dont force it.

if you tap it, it should be ok. my school workshop teacher says " if in doubt, give it a clout".

You shouldn't haft to tap it of with a hammer. Have you ever been in this situation? It wont come off with a tap of a hammer.

yeah, unless the engine is brand new, the gasket sticks the crank case cover on. i have probably done this to at least 10 engines.

I have had this same problem that this guy had where the cover will only come off an inch on 4 motors and you haft to use a fine file. I know how to do it in this situation and you dident. And not with brand new engines. Briggs from the 80s

At the end of the day, if you want to go smash it with a hammer then its your choice but its highly likely that you will damage something, impact force cracks cast objects.

After cleaning the shaft with sandpaper/file you may still have to tap it, just with a small ball pien, and not on the casting.

Dont hit it directly with a hammer, use a piece of wood...
Ive used some flathead screwdrivers to pry around, going in a circle.

I use gemmi bars... Does anyone else think i am too rough, hammers and gemmi bars lol.
A couple of big screwdrivers should help do the trick though, but make sure that you have all the rust off the shaft first. Maybe run it and grab some emery and sand it a little.
