My band brakes don t have the power to stop Betty (my kart). Now I know every one is thinking up grade your brakes, but I m into free, so will drilling holes in the drum or grinding slots help?

try a bigger band/drum

Holes and slots would probably cause fast wear and slower braking on a drum, it's all about surface area with a drum.

You can just cut another drum so you get a disk outta it and stick a mini cable operated brake caliper on it
