Alright. I'm going to be trading my go kart for Orange Krate's project, thought I'd go ahead and ask this. I've never dealt with anything like this before, so might as well ask it here.

How would I go about putting a brake on this thing? Here's the pic he sent me.

I'm not even sure how I'm going to put a shifter yet, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

like on car, put dics inside wheel or extend axle to fit disc between wheel and frame ..

is this gonna be too low?

can you rotate it by 180° ?

:wai: There is already brakes on the transaxle, look at the right side while standing behind it. Not knowing what you intend to do with it, if you are going to make a speed buggy, those brakes will be useless. That transaxle looks like a one speed, where you could either select forward, neutral or reverse. Your gear selection was controlled by a variable speed pulley set up. With ranges 1 thru 5/6 or 7, in either forward/reverse. That transaxle has already been rotated 90 degress, the pulley should be on top.

uuuh carefull.. the transmission brake is NOT meant to stop a moving vehicle.. it's a parking brake ONLY.

IIRC transaxles have a diff inside, so you need to stop both rear wheels seperately.
keep in mind that one disc will not be enough.

Sorry sid but when i am driving my mower in 6th gear i use the brake pedal to slow down and come to a stop then apply parking.
But it is not to be used to try and stop a faster go kat

Oh.. I must have misinterpreted the manual then.. *shrugs*

Seeing the brake pads are roughly a thumbnail in size, and the disc is just larger silver dollar...
I somehow must have imagined I read "parking brake only" when I last read such pdf...

vehicle brake: can be used as parking brake
(brake effective only when power source is declutched...

Anyways, it stops a slow moving mower ??... impressive.

Thanks Mike for setting this straight

Just to add, yes, that little disc is actually the vehicles brake but, no good for this application...

So I'd need to put 2 disk brakes on either side?

Umm, no, only one per side... :lolgoku:

Wonder how I could extend the axle.

You shouldn't need to; with those big rims, you should be able to find something that will fit on the axle between the end of the housing & the rim...
