Brakes not working

So I bought a go-kart for $400 and the only issue it has is the brakes not working; when I push the brake pedal it does nothing, it also leaks from the caliper. what do i do?

I could not see any brake fluid in the picture, so it depends on where it is leaking. Sounds like it could be the piston or a hose connection.

Do you know the make and model of the kart so you can check on replacement parts like new calipers, or a caliper rebuild kit ?

Sorry, i later found out that its either the piston or the dust seal. It leaks past the piston out to the dust seal. Is it supposed to leak past the piston?

it must not leak anywhere!

with NEW ones (from say the rebuild kit) yes,
with used ones (say from another caliper) no.

but you should replace all seals not just one..
it's safe to assume that all seals are the exact same age
if you increase pressure by fixing the leak
the next brittle seal will spring a leak
and you'll be starting over in just a few days after fixing it.

don't take any chances with the brakes..
fix it properly or don't even start fixing it
just buy a new caliper instead.

So best advice is to see what the manufacturer advises you to swap.
(easiest by getting the original rebuild kit)

With brakes like yours it's usually a very short list of parts anyways.
