i am thinking of using this kit and retrofit it to work on my kart what do u guys think will it give me enough stopping power over a mechanical brake set up

yes. it sys its made for ATV's and dirt bikes which are faster/heavier than a go kart.

thanks my kart with me in it is around 300 pounds but right now it has a mechanical brake set up and doesn't work very well and want to up grade just need to keep cost down and for that price it is hard to pass up

ya very true... and 300lbs is about the weight of a 125cc dirt bike and rider or a youth quad alone.

Also- there's nothing stopping you (pun intended) from yanking the brakes off a motorcycle or similar. I used the front brake components from a 250 Virago for my kids' kart- works exceptionally well.

with toy story, please note the scooter brakes in his link are out of stock. but yeah motorcycle brakes will be better. i don't like skimping on brakes, right now i need to be careful not to lock up the rear tire!

A vehicle's gotta stop as good as it goes. If not better. I bought the 250 Virago for the engine, in running condition for $250. I was struggling to make an old lawn tractor mechanical brake work for the kids' kart. Then one day, it hit me. (Hurt, too). You've already got it, use it!

Don't overlook car parts either. My kart uses the hydraulic CLUTCH master cylinder from a Toyota pickup, and the caliper is from a 1970's Mercedes. Wrecker stuff, cheap. Gobs of stopping power.

I use hydraulic brakes on my kart and they work wonderfully. I would definitely recommend a brake system from a small ATV or dirtbike.
