Brake Troubles.....HELP!!!!

Ok, here is the situation; I bought a used hydraulic brake caliper off e-bay that came off a 82' 750 suzuki motorcycle. I modified the mounting brackets on my off-road kart to accomondate the bigger caliper, flushed the lines, hooked everything up, feeled the res. with brake fluid and bled the lines. Problem is that when I pump the brakes the piston moves but wont clamp the disc tight enough to slow or stop the kart. Here are some pics of the setup, any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

There are pads in it.

Well in that case, Bleed the caliper and master.
There should be a bleeder screw on the caliper,
loosen it.
Pump your brake,
hold down the peddle,
Tighten the screw,
Let off the peddle,
Loosen the bleeder screw,
Pump again,


Just do that until you have solid fluid coming out.
And make sure your resevoir stays filled while doing this, so it dont suck in air, otherwise you will have to start all over.




And are you sure it has pads? Whats the big thing next to the rotor, attached to that rod? And It looks like the other side has nothing there.

That big thing is the mount and the pad is partly inside that and pushes out when the pedal is pushed. And again, yes it has pads...:roflol: I did bleed it but not how you described so I will do it again the way you described and see if that helps. Thank you all for helping me!!!

What about the seals on the master cylinder? Are those in good shape?

Lol, Those are some weird looking pads to me.
I see the pads now :thumbsup:

Make sure you have a hard pedal, if its soft you still have air in the system.

It looks like only one side of the disc is touching the pad, and the other side is just touch the piston? maybe you could get some more close up pics.

sounds like you didnt bleed them right. Open up the bleeder valve, push the pedal in all the way, tighten up bleed valve, release pedal. Repeat until you get brake fluid when you push the pedal in all the way, then tighten valve up while holding in pedal, then release pedal and it should be fine. Its probably a two man job.

Yep, a little bit better described than mine.

I dont know if your doing this but, You dont want to open the valve and just keep pumping the pedal, you have to hold the pedal down while you tighten the screw. If you let it up before the screw is tightened, then it just sucks air back in.

You have it set up to push the arm into the master cylinder right?
It looks like you do, but Im just making sure.

That was exactly how I did it.:oops:

Yes it pushes the rod in when the brake pedal is pushed.

Oh ok, I was pretty sure you did, But you mentioned that you were pulling on the arm, I figured you meant the arm that goes to the pedal, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.

Bleed it, and get back here!
