it works by catching some of the mixture backwash of the engine before it makes it to the carburettor's needle and then release it during the next cycle. By ensuring a consistent mixture ratio, the boost bottle should improve performance and fuel economy.

Yep, at best they help a badly set up, badly designed carby, at worst they're something that can kill your engine.

On another forum someone had a one on a Nissan Patrol, the part of the boost bottle that the line connects to broke off and sucked up a whole bunch of crap. Needless to say, it needed a rebuild.

Don't get it, there's no point.

Edit: oops, a bit slow.

If your just going to copy/paste info from the net like that, you should start it out with one of these: (quote) And then also post the link to the source/website you found it. That way we wont mistake you for actually knowing what your talking about.

Here's a search link showing everyone else's misguided attempts at acting like a big authority while copy/pasting this same misinformation:--> http://www.google.com/search?source...kwash+of+the+engine+before+it+makes+it+to+the

with contraptions like these i always ask myself: "why didnt toyota/suzuki/ford put this on my engine when it left the factory?"

at the end of the day if it worked then everybody would be doing it.

ebay is full of magic devices like this

its for 2-stroke. the Prinable sounds correct. it captures some of the wasted fuel mix then injects it on the next stroke. and if that happens every stroke then it would regulate the mixture. you may have to adjust the carb, but it sounds like it could work.

Any blowback from a piston port 2 stroke would get chucked back into the air filter. In "theory", the even slightest area where this would work is at idle, when the throttle plate is nearly closed and MOST "blowback" would rather pressurize up into the boost bottle.

Chances are however, your throttle plate is open when you're riding, rendering the boost bottle useless.

 What the fuss about guy's? these things have been factory developed and fitted to Yamaha 2 stroke moto cross bikes for over 20 yrs! (fitted with reed valves and all) .

From my understanding the inlet tract gets a standing wave (just like the exhaust) and these things act like resonance chambers to take advantage of the standing wave in the inlet tract to help with better (more efficient) crankcase mixture filling in certain rev ranges. The volume of these things can be varied by changing one for another of a different size. This would change the RPM range in which it would function or "boost" the gas mix charge into the engine, hence broadening the usable power output from the engine (more fun)

I am thinking of making one for my Kirby Tecumseh 2 stroke powered Kart out of an old drinking chocolate tin and a couple of other tins of varing volumes. (e.g. a beetroot tin boost bottle, as you know: you cannot Beet a root; un-beet able race team...:ack2: enough bad Aussie puns...) Was even thinking about a variable volume version but I need to get some where near the right size first an experiment from there.:rolleyes3: (time time and more time!)

Looking at the earlier pic, my only critisim would be that the joining hose maybe too long and soft. Also noticed it is made by DG from what I recall they make / made aftermarket performance gear for 2 stroke moto cross bikes. The YZ 80cc and 125cc I had, the pipe was about 3/8 in Dia. & 100mm long (made in metal) and the "boost" bottle was about 300ml?
Perhaps someone can do a lap of the motorbike wreckers and sus it out a bit more? See whats out there, might be able to pick one up cheap...I'd be keen to find out a bit more:cheers2:
