Just nuts man. So much of this stuff is just going to be in the trash in the future too. Aint nothing like overcomplicating something that does not need to be overcomplicated. What I want to see, is legal action requiring all hand tool manufacturers to adopt common battery patterns so you can interchange batteries between different manufacturers. Seems like a big waste of tools due to dated/mismatched batteries.

No way do I want my friggin power saw smarter than me! How is that a good idea? It’s the rise of the machines man! Puters are coming to get us!
I actually think the Sun is whats going to trigger absolute chaos. Look up "The Carrington Event." Basically we can't predict when these events will happen. And when they do we only have about a days warning. And if/when another one happens on this magnitude, it is essentially the equivilant of setting off EMPs on one whole side of the earth. A literal collapse of the grid, and fried internals of any electrical components not in a Faraday cage. Spooky stuff, and in my mind, one of the, if not thee worst scenario sometime in our future:

That actually happened with phones and chargers in general because Apple kept changing the "proprietary" plug and port every generation or two.
The new standard for ALL devices with internal batteries is USB-C (not sure about Apple and do not care) at least from what I can gather.

I miss the days of the all steel and iron, corded, Craftsman drills with enough torque to break a wrist if the bit bound up without breaking off.

Those old dogs were hard to kill and impossible to give job at that it couldn't handle.

I have cordless tools because the are sometimes just the easiest option in tight spaces far from an outlet, but I still prefer corded brutes 1000%

I do have a small goal of having a corded equal to every battery powered bi☆ch tool I have. I was given a big Ryobi One+ bundle with

Sawzall
Tile oscillating sander saw
1/2" impact
Keyless chuck drill
Impact driver
Angle grinder
Circular saw
And a work light

$120 for a single 18v 4Ah battery 🤬🤬 and the batteries only come in 2Ah and 4Ah🤬

I've got a Kobalt Drill and a Dewalt Grinder both corded

There may be something to that, but I guarantee the source is deeply involved in trying to scare the populace.

That is a great goal. I am almost there on that one. And there are definitely sometimes that the battery-powered tools just don't cut it with heavy-duty stuff. I couldn't decide which battery operated cult to follow, so I settled on the lowest financial risk: Bauer from Harbor Freight. I have almost all of their battery-operated hand tools. I keep a short list of what I want, and don't buy it. But I always check the used/returns pile for the ones on my list. Great deals usually, and I have yet to have an issue, and they take returns on returned items within 5 days. I bought 3 angle grinders at $25 per! The only tool to fail has been the cordless drill (melted internals under heavy use), hence the drill press below. I put the drill in the freezer, and I think the melted internals partially dried right, as it sometimes works now, haha. I always keep an eye out online for cheap local old school tools. This is a partial picture of a haul I got last night from a retired contractor at a killer price. The old Jet 13R worked, but the head was seized from rust after being stored outside. I got her running and moving again last night though! Not bad for $50. It has some forsaken heavy-duty steel plate to put workpieces on, and the vertical component holding everything up seems to be salvaged from an arm on a circular saw at a wood mill, all mounted to shopping cart wheels.20240116_135415.jpg20240116_135346.jpg20240116_135318.jpg20240116_135330.jpg

Those were the days. I used all mine up. Made new brushes when I could. When they started to zap me when I pulled the trigger, only then did they get thrown away! Tossed my last drill about 5 years ago. Now all plastic crap.
