Anyone try out this gearbox?
It’s the only one I could find that will supposedly hold over 11 hp.
It’s going to mate to a slightly built gx 390.

seeing as how you are probably not popping wheelies in reverse.....it would seem fine. Those ratings are usually referring to max power, and usually we crawl in reverse.

I have never seen one used here. Buy it and we can help you mount it. Then let us know.
I’ve already got it mated to the engine with a custom mount I built.
I was just wondering if I’m wasting my time because this thing is gonna explode like a grenade when it gets some decent HP put through it…….

These gearboxes are in series with the drivetrain, forward as well as reverse.
So the mfr hp rating would cover forward as well as reverse.

How accurate the rating is????
But I guess if its going to be ignored, then it all becomes a pass or fail experiment.

If you just bought that gearbox, and it has an unconditional warranty for 30 days or whatever, hurry up and run the max monkey mess out of it.
Blow it up if you can, and then get a new one for free. Then you'll actually know what it can take without asking. Let us know too.

I’m afraid your just going to have to take one for the team and just let us know how it works out.
Mad that’s not a cool suggestion. I was a small business guy and stunts like that would have wiped me out in no time. Heck I won’t even do that to Harbor Freight!

Apparently……. The gearbox is an OEM Chinese snowmobile part.
It does appear much bigger than the 30 series gearbox and it has a 3/4” shaft instead of the usual 5/8” shaft.
It still sucks that they quit making the Comet gearbox………
I would have been much happier with a USA made product.

Your return is baked into the buying cost... you know how many youtubers by the tool with the intention of returning it to harbor freight before they even buy it. well that repair is done let’s hop in the car and return this for are money back. You also have to think about theft. the manufacturer eats theft costs directly and looses wayyy more then you returning there $14 tool. when dude runs out with a shopping kart loaded to the tipping point with makita stuff and walks out the back the manufacturer eats that cost. I’ll return it and let them figure it out. it’s no questions asked at are store. I forgot to say 60% off predators that were returned and set in the back for disposal. if you get the right store worker and engine that just needs a carburetor that returned engine is only like $35

You're right Denny, it's not cool. Frustration setting in however, has caused much worse. For all of us reading here, to hear that a given horsepower on a given kart was more than a single common F-N-R could take might mean many, many of them not getting destroyed and sent back under warranty. At least I would hope so, or the guilt would all be on me. Let's just say the seller expects him to install it and run it, pass or fail, regardless of my dystopian advice. Now I sincerely hope it works out great for him.

Can I use a 30 series gear box with a 18hp motor? Has anyone done it? Results please?
If it is a hopped up small block engine, then yes. You have triple the stock horsepower, but nowhere near triple the stock torque. If it is a stock big block engine, it WILL have triple the torque ( at least ) and will be too much for the 30.

I bought the 40 series from them and the only issues I’m having is the key ways are snapping from torque on the drive side, I’m not sure how I’m going to fix it yet. I’m contemplating adding a set screw through the gear and into the shaft some or taking the drive gear/shaft to get milled out for a 1/4” key way
