So guys i brought my engine to my autos class and have been working on the engine. I have torn it down and cleaned almost every nut bolt and part with a parts cleaner. The pistons are pretty caked on the top but i assume that isnt bad because in terms it is a 2 stroke.
I will be ordering new plugs, fuel lines, and fuel pump this week and will update you guys with some pictures soon.

Again it is a Polaris 398cc 2 stroke snowmobile engine that i am putting on a go kart. Estimated 34 hp, but i will probably be at 29-30 because of the oldness and some parts need replacing.

Soooooo... Il update you guys with pics and let me know if you guys find anything on this engine@ Thankls:2guns::2guns:

no one has anything to say lol"??

Today im going to buy fuel lines, spark plugs, fuel pump, in line filter, some air filters, fuel shut off, and some other little parts. I am planning on putting it back together and seeing if tearing it down was worth it, and see if it starts up.
I think i have takin about 5 pounds or dirt and rust of this baby!!!:roflol::roflol::2guns::2guns::2guns:

Once you start posting your progress of the build im sure people will be interested, theres no much to say about an engine.

Do you have the starter motor for it?

Piston wash looks like it was running a bit lean, but it might just be the picture.

It has a pull starter on it that isnt pictured. I dont know what all the wires on the carb side are for??? Im guessing it was for a electric start??

The piston was caked but after some good ol' parts washer cleaning it is pretty clean. I brought the whole engine over to the parts washer and it looks D@mn nice for a 40 year old engine!!!!
It looks like the engine will be finished by end of school, which means time to start working on my rolling chassis (manco Dingo)

Il update with some pics tonight.

Do you have the rest of the snowmobile? The easiest thing would be to get all the wiring it had and adapt...
If you don't have that, then it will take some figuring.
Wiring is not my bag.

Yes it has points and condensers. I dont think they are shot though. I could not find a way to get the flywheel off. If it doesnt fire up with the new parts i will get points/condensers.

It is rated 27 hp at 6,500 RPM
2 Mikuni VM30 carburetors
20:1 Gas to oil ratio...1 US quart of 2 cycle sled oil mixed to five US gallons of regular gasoline
NGK B7ES gapped at .020" spark plugs

How high do these snomobile engines rev?
I know that yours is air cooled , but what about a water-cooled engine out of a jet-ski or other PWC?
