Friends, These are images that my research has netted me so far and I do have all of the roll bars attachments. With the roll bars and the entire rest of the kart it is pretty heavy so 212cc may be under powered?

My good sir, might I suggest a 500cc Polaris 2 stroke? That will move it along even bester.

No, I vote 420. If it were me, I would not be happy with the 212. My modded up 212 doesnt even get the minibike moving quick enough.

I know, I know, I expect too much from these engines. Its a curse. Or disorder, I dont know.

A mildly modified 212 with a 30 series torque converter will EASILY get that kart to 35 mph, and accelerate to that speed briskly. It will also bolt on without modification. A big block will require some ( and maybe a lot ) of modifications. The engine weighs more than double of the small one, and if the back of the kart isn't already pretty stout you might need to stiffen it up a bit .

big block as in 8-10 HP engine? the frame is solid and is well built

I can sense it! He needs convincing of the 420! Its what he really wants, even if he doesnt know it yet. He thought he wanted reinforcement in his belief that a 212 would suffice but trust me, Im just helping him bypast the ultimate "this isnt enough" realization.

I vote 420! These BKS karts are stout and tough looking. Needs that bully power.

And since he already has a 212, he can use that for his next kart or mini bike because this hobby is addicting and you can't have just one, more like a stable of motorized madness for the grandkids and himself.

I think the 212cc is more than enough. But by all means TRY IT first and see what it is like especially if you are new to karting and kart engines. Then go crazy with a 420cc upgrade. It's a bigger engine which means bigger torque but it does not rev any faster than the 212cc, it just has more grunt to get the kart up to speed faster.

Most of these fun karts were designed around a 5 horsepower engine or smaller, give or take. I think many of the BKS karts had one or TWO Briggs 13 cubic inchers (5HP). There’s sometimes not enough room for a larger engine without modifications.
