Hi all,
I'm trying something a little ambitious here. I recently got my hands on the rear shock of a b̶i̶c̶y̶c̶l̶e̶ dirtbike and it got me thinking: maybe I could use another of those on the back of my motorbike and maybe, if I had 2 more of em, make a fork out of them via machining and welding of square metal tubing. Some of them are surprisingly cheap, too.

What do y'all think? Would it be a stable/viable option?

No.....please don't. Anything bicycle related should never be used on anything powered by an engine.

using them for forks will depend on your tools/ability to machine. I would think you would have to have 2 tubes, one able to slide in the other, with the shocks mounted on one end to one tube and on the other end to the other tube. Not sure it would be worth the effort.

as far as using them for the back, how they ride would depend on mounting angle and the load the shocks were intended for. Some dirtbikes have shocks that are more or less mounted vertically, where others are mounted with a fair bit of angle. The amount of stroke the shocks have would matter on the new application as well. Take all that into consideration so you don't end up with shocks that are super stiff, or too soft and just end up bottoming out.
