looks like front axle would have to be extended to allow clearance for wider tires to turn

Get better shocks, I am running a HD hydraulics and have plenty of control and tolerable ride. On a 30032 Yerf dog.

His kart dont have shocks.... hence looking for an alternative source of suspension. .....
Kris, can you space the front wheels outward enough to alleviate the clearance issues? Post some pics.....

Real 'karts' dont have suspensions... the ride is determined by the tire/tube's air pressure and the thickness of ones hind quarter(think theres 1 kinda kart that has a 2" suspension... vave spring springs... what you are referring to is a 'buggy'... just to clarify.

throw up some pics of your creation

it is possible to run lower pressure in big types but it would be good to see the likelihood of acheiving this without doing damge to your kart

your tyres act as a lever that pivot on the stub axle
the taller they are the longer the lever
now they are putting more load on your stub axle and steering setup

usually u can get away with it as most karts are over engineered in the steering system

A real kart is what ever he has to work with.

Entirely on target; we need the OP to give us some pictures to help sort this out.
