2 problems with this weld; both parts are galvanized (hot dipped in molten zinc) and the elbow isn't steel, it's cast iron. Steel and cast iron can be welded together, just not with the equipment you've got at the moment. Get some more appropriate matl. and you'll enjoy some much better results.:cheers2:

going to buy some small steel sheets and a metal saw disk today from homedepot a.

well this my result
my work sent me to a welding course

the first is iron filing rods
the second is general porpose with hoydogen up top
the last is mig with my first atempt at hydrogen up top

there is no point recalling the number rods as the Australian and US welding socialies use differant numbers

they were all done useing a CIG (australian company) 3 in 1 machine

I will be using a Mig. After I weld a bead should it look exactly or close to picture 3 without needing to use any tools to clean it?

that isnt the best example but it is alright

at a second look it might not be mig i think its a sencond GP weld

but it should look similar all the same

some say u need to do little cricles but that isnt the case

triangles, ovals, cirlces, zig zag, eclipse, it is more about personal choice

i prefer ovals and eclipses

Is an expensive welding, but the best we can get.
The guy that teach me welding, told me that TIG welding is an art, but I'm not an artist, he is.

This first pic is from when I got my homebrew tig wired and working.

These are mig welds on half inch plate.

I didn't take a picture Like I should have, but I laid down some beautiful stick welds last weekend. Here's one I did just now. It would have been better if I had beveled the plate before welding.

I've got some better ones, just no pics right now.
Here's a pretty solid weld I did for my rear suspension heim. 3/4" dia bolt down on 1/8" angle iron (not bad for a Harbor Freight welder!)

Wish I had some better pics, but here's a video of an expert to gather the oohs and aahs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RrDeUKcH4

this is and ok video but he is welding too hot. if you look at the weld anwere he moved forward the weld pool ved on him but other then that it is a good way to weld

MIG- Metal Inert Gas- Uses solid wire and requires the use of gas

Wire feed/flux-core- Uses flux-core wire. Doesn't require gas.

MIG- Metal Inert Gas- Cleaner welds ,less slag, less splatter
Wire feed/flux-core- The metal doesn't have to be very clean,No gas , more slag and splatter to clean up ..
