I just picked up a baja heat project for a hundred bucks. The guy told me the motor won't turn. Upon inspection I noticed the starter cup is spinning freely on the nut. tomorrow Im starting on it and am wondering how can I get the crank to stay still while I'm tightening the nut?

Remove the spark plug. Put piston at BDC, run as much cotton rope as you can into the cylinder, and tighten your nut.
If you're a super noob, don't forget to leave some rope hanging out.

I got it tightened down  I stuffed a rope in the plug hole and put a ratchet on the bolt holding the clutch. Engine is a honda gx200. I used to be a member on this site years ago when I was a teen building go karts with my best friend but I forgot my username. This time around its mini bikes :D Thanks everyone for the help.

Got some time to work on it today, the carb was very clogged and dirty. Disassembled and cleaned carb and tried to fire it up and no dice. The engine spins very easy by hand I'm suspecting a stuck valve from being exposed to the elements. If all else fails a predator engine it is.

Not to hijack (it seemsthat ship has already sailed) but, if you wanted to do something about, maybe, combining your two profiles, I suggest you send a PM to robertdjung & discuss your options...

FWIW, a lot has changed here in the past 5 years; I don't mean the rules or 1st class content, more the people; there are very few veteran members still active from 5 years ago...

The honda engine ended up having a severely scored cylinder and no compression what so ever so it's on the shelf until I decide if I want to bore it out or just use it for parts. A brand new predator 6.5 (hemi) just arrived at my front door from ebay for $73.00 shipped! Next purchase will be a TAV but that's going to have to wait till next month, tis the season to go broke:roflol:
