Picked up a homemade bench grinder for $5 dollars at a yard sale.
It works well. I will probably end up makings a metal base and cover for the belt. Still a score in my book.

That's cool, don't forget to keep those oil cups oiled. Thoses older motors will last a lifetime as long as they are oiled regularly(they have bushings instead of bearings).

Typically no window. That might be another port for the wire connector to fit.
There are little cups with little spring covers on the top of the end bells. Add a thin machine oil to them every once in a while. If the motor(when the power is off) feels like its rubbing on the bush,or sounds like its rubbing, add a little more.

:wai: I have the same setup, but I have wire brushes one fine and one coarse instead of grinding wheels. I used a 3/4 hp motor to power it (it was free), the motor has sealed bearings. I still have the 1/4hp motor that originally powered it and it has oil cups. Where as the jackshaft has grease zerks. Back in my day every shop in the country had one of those. The one I have was my Grandfathers.

I have worked on a few about 100y elevator motors with oil bushings. Surprisingly enough, only the packing needed to be changed, shafts and bush were still good.
Sadly one of the motors arent being used any more, they can't scrap it since the building built around the main armature and coil stator. Perfect condition, but now a nice looking paper weight.
