Series 40 drover and driven, I built the jackshaft mount plates out of stuff I had laying around. I am down to waiting on a yellow spring for the driven and cutting the hole for the crankshaft to stick through. How tight should the belt be when I fab the clutch mount? Should it be touching lightly with just a little tension on it, no tension or a bit more tension to account for belt wear.

The way I have my 40 setup is I can move the belt around the pulleys by hand. And I can just barely get the belt off without loosening anything. Working well so far.

Series 40 belt tension is not open to guesswork, its pretty precise. Look up the Comet 40 belt chart, and use the provided measurements and belt numbers to make an appropriate selection.

That is how I came up with my spacing. The belt will tell you the distance that is needed.
