Got my new belt 203787.

The problem now is either the belt is too tight and is able to kill the engine. OR when I take off the chain pops off. It doesn't really make the kart take off but it tightens the belt to the point it wants to kill the engine if it doesn't get to take off.

I've tightened the driven unit to pull the chain tight first. Then I pulled the engine as far back as it will go. I did that because anywhere else father up it would pull the belt more and kill the engine.

I'm thinking I might need to raise the driven unit up higher to be even with the tc. Does the tc and driven unit need to be even? Or I might need to try to redrill the engine mounts farther back.

Or do I just need to reorder a longer belt?

Here's some pics and a Youtube video.

Not sure of exactly how tight a TC belt should be, but it does look a little loose. I'd move the engine back if there is enough room on the mounting plate. Make sure the engine isn't bolted too close to the edge of the mounting plate.

Also, how freely does everything turn? What happens if you set the back end up on blocks and start it?

The belt is loose in my opinion too but it will turn the wheels more after starting it if I tighten it more. By back do you mean towards the front? because its as far to the rear of the kart as it can go atm.

If I set the back en on blocks it will start turning the rear wheels as soon as I start it. Also the engine doesn't die when it can turn the wheels.

I'm still going to buy some more washers and try to raise the driven unit up more. It's still a bit below the tc.

By back, I actually meant in the direction that tightens the TC. It actually appears to be toward the forward end of the cart in this case.

Ok, keeping in mind I have no experience with CVTs & the only knowledge I have is what I've seen here, plus a bit of personal research & mechanical understanding, here's my 2 cents worth:

No belt will work efficiently on a rough surface: from the pics & video, your driven appears to have a heavy surface rust, it should be almost polished. Rust creates a rough surface so, therefore, the belt will tend to grab. Riding may fix it but, for best results, you may have to take it apart & clean it by hand.

AFAIK, the two units do not need to be level, raising the driven probably won't change anything except the chain tension.

Speaking of chain tension, it shouldn't be too tight; the chain, like the belt, needs a bit of slack to work efficiently. Also, double check to make sure your sprockets are lined up correctly. In most cases, the reason for a chain to "pop off" is either too much slack or misaligned sprockets.

Back to your belt; it should be loose but, not that loose. Someone with more experience will have to fill you in on that one.

I took it apart and wire brushed it a bit before those pics too. There was some old belt rubbings stuck. Tomorrow I'll take it apart more and try to shine it up.

Thanks for the info and tips I'll put them to use tomorrow!

Also I'm re uploading the video so it isn't sideways and hard to see.

This will be the new link

Before you do, as I suggested, take it for a spin, it may shine itself

alright. I'll just try to fix the chain problem by making dbl sure it's lined up with the sprocket and driven unit. If I can fix that I'll give it a spin to see if it will clean it self up.
