Hello all,

I've recently started building an electric go cart for a school project. I have the frame, but in need for motor, batteries and a controller. The money comes from the school, so it has to be somewhat cheap, but all suggestions are welcomed:)

I've already found a DC motor fitting my needs, but it says its 3phase permanent magnet. How do you wire this up to the batteries? I understood a controller is needed for 3phase motors?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric...sh=item360e5c2134:g:hJMAAOSwcWxZ4Iq4#shpCntId

Would this work? as it is 3phase

The batteries i can manage to find myself, but if ya'll have any suggestions, please post them:)

If anyone would be an angel and give me some names or links to motors and/or explanation to how a 3phase DC motor works, I would be grateful!

Thanks for reading

I think that would be a matching controller for the Boma Motor:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/48V-2000...or-Controller-For-Scooter-E-bike/361555200886

even better (cheaper & same seller)
here's another one (the controller that's in the exact scooter the motor is in according to the item description)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Control-...2000-watt-48-volt-MAF2000RS-etc-/262801932357

and you'd need a throttle pedal (kart you said, right?)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric...-36-48-volts-go-carts-quads-etc-/391905854670

since it's all (motor, controller, throttle) from the same seller, you might save on shipping ;)

Are you given a limit to spend? Most projects come with , " this is the dollar amount you get for this project, good luck teams!" :D

So you need the control relay for these 3 phase motors? And do you know of any wiring diagrams?

KingaCobra,

No I am not, but cant overspend to misuse their trust, I would say that 300-400 dollars are max

you need a controller for ALL vehicles that are electrically powered
you can never do without!
(some simpler than others but yes you will need one)

Why they call the controller a relay.. I have no idea

Wiring diagram?
Yes IIRC FunctionalArtist posted one just a few months ago..
(he had a Boma 1500 wired up... [1800?? I can't remember])
check the forum.. you'll see it ("Boma wiring diagram" something)

but it's not too complicated really..
phases are usually labelled AB and C anyways (both on the motor and the controller)
match them up and you're half way through already.
the five sensor wires are usually on a single connector (some can some can't be flipped) so there's a 70/30 chance you get them right the first time too ..

the rest depends on the controller.. is there a "limiter" that needs to be wired, 'ignition key'?
brake pedal? that all should come with the instructions of the controller
and is fairly straight forward as well.

IF it's not.. just ask and we'll find you the answers when needed.
