Hi All,
I recently converted a friends Coleman KT196 to Electric Start. Once finished I checked the Battery Voltage while the engine is running. It was barely higher than when the engine was off. With the engine off the battery was reading 12.5 Volts. With the engine running it was 12.7 volts. I checked the charging coils with the engine running and they are both putting out 22-24 Volts AC which is what appears to be the correct reading. I am using a 4 wire voltage regulator which has a Power, Ground and the two input leads for the charging coils. I had a couple extra voltage regulators so I tried them and they all give the same readings. I have also put the Kart on Jack Stands so I can take readings with the engine RPM's raised. It made a tiny difference , but not what I would consider enough to charge the battery. What should the voltage reading be at the battery while the engine is running?
