Battery accident, not sure what's dead now.

Running a 48v brushless Boma motor and TDPRO controller. Everything working fine and one day the Lipo decided to self destruct and caught on fire. Didn't think much of it, as it was some no name off of eBay.
Replaced the battery thinking all would be fine, but no dice. So I figured the battery power goes straight into the controller and that must have taken the brunt of whatever havoc the battery did. Replaced the controller with the same exact model, but again, we are going nowhere.
So I guess its the motor that's actually dead. There really isn't anything else to replace, but is there a way to test before purchasing another one?
Really the only other component is the throttle, can I jump a couple of the 3 wires to fake the the throttle signal?

Did the battery pack catch on fire while in use? (discharging)
...or while re-charging?
...or while just sitting?

What kind of fuse or circuit breaker are you using?
...could that have gotten damaged?

*The throttle can be tested with a MM (multi-meter)

First, with the throttle connected to the controller (& the controller is switched on) make sure the throttle is "powered"
Contact the black probe to the negative (-) (black wire coming out of the throttle)
...& contact the red probe to the (red) power wire
...it should show ~5V+

Then, with the black probe still in contact (with the black wire)
...contact the red probe to the third "signal" wire (usually green or white)
...then, actuate the throttle

* At rest it should show ~.5V (yes, 1/2 of a Volt)
...then, when actuated, it should slowly rise up to ~4.5V ;)

Caught fire while in use. No fuse at the time. Got it setup in a pretty rudimentary way and well, never fixed some things I should have. Now using better switches and put in a 30a fuse.

Throttle appears to be working, although the voltage range is .8 - 4v
Maybe I have not been getting full power out of this cart?

So with new controller, new battery, working throttle, that really only leaves the motor that was toasted. Ugg, of course thats that hardest thing to remove. Although, now it's a good time to replace the stretched chain.

Throttle parameters seem OK

Them brushless motors have "sensors" in them (what the small wires are connected to & are transferring info back to controller from)
...& your "incident" may have burned 1 (or more) of them out

Without the controller getting (info) feed-back from "all" of them sensors (like rotor position)
...it just kinda makes sense that it won't/can't send any power to the motor
...because it doesn't know which of the (3) big "power cables" to send that "power" thru :cheers2:

Sometimes ya learn what ta do
...but, it seems like most times ya learn what NOT ta do

Figured it out!

I jerry rigged/jumped the 'astern' (forward/reverse) connector originally since I did not have a dedicated switch for it. Fire toasted the insulation on that jumper wire so I tossed it when I was pulling the burnt battery out. Replaced the jumper and we are back in business.

Thanks for your help, getting out there and testing the throttle made me go through all the connectors again and I remembered what the 'astern' connector was.

And we are down again, maybe controller issue?

Pack reads 54v but the 'indicator' plug off the controller that usually reads battery voltage is now reading 1v. Just parked it one day, charged, then next day nothing.

Sounds like your "battery incident" wounded the controller :(
...& it finally "died" :ack2:

Was the "overall" performance any different after "the incident"?

You could "try" a "fresh" controller
...but, for longevity I'd just get a whole new "kit" (motor & controller) :thumbsup:

Ahh, but it is the new controller that I just purchased, this one never saw the old battery.

Well, maybe it's the motor that "took the hit" :ack2:

I'd say many things got "stressed" during your "incident"
(that's why I mentioned longevity = new motor & controller)

Sounds like there's some "testing" in your future :thumbsup:
