So here is what I have found so far for rejetting the Carbs properly. Seems like I need #2 jet setup for +50° weather.. or am reading this wrong? I'm planning for spring/summer/fall.. I will rejetting accordingly as time goes on but I want to get the proper setup for warmest conditions and adjust for cold from there.

The chart I saw was in an order temperature wise where you could theoretically figure out to rejet upwards of 80-90.

This might help.

So the El Tigre was an Arctic cat and NOT Polaris.. okay.. i'm trying not to get confused LOL. I'm going to make a data plate once i find all my parts and attach it to the frame for reference. i dont want to go do this again next year when another season starts LOL

I had a dual plug 440 that I needed help with. I ended up trading it for a complete, running 395. The guy I traded with said that the engines with 2 plugs per cylinder were a hot commodity with snowmobile racers. He completely rebuilt mine and is still racing it today in Colorado. I still run the 395 on my kart.

So the El tigre 440 was top dog back in the day when it came to snowmobiles drag racing from what i'm reading, nothing could keep up them at the time. very cool... i think i need to pick up a service manual for the engine for all the specs. i think any year from 1973-78 should match up but wrote few emails to snowmobile websites for more info.. i will be doing the carb clean and start Syncing them for install and carb fine tuning

Got the Mikuni carbs cleaned out today and drained the fuel tank. Nasty old white, yellow junk throughout..

The carbs are cleaned out now but when cleaning them out they weren't in bad shape. Some pitting in the fuel bowls and some discoloration on some aluminum faces but what can you ask for on 40+ year old snowmobile engine. I'm thinking of going through them again to be safe... not sure but leaning towards it.

I verified it's got spark, and quick shot of starting fluid and it fired for a few seconds.. it definitely wants to run

Nice find! I have an '85 FL 350 bored .020 over with a water cooled head sitting in my mom's garage for the last 10 or so years. It ran when I put it in there. I should dig it out one of these days. Maybe sell it off to someone that wants to restore it.

Just picked another 440.

This one is a Sachs SA-2 440 C

and I only paid $50 for it.. Score! Has great compression. Guy said it ran great when pulled from old sled that got frame got tossed... he even left the Comet Duster driver Clutch on it!! I'm stoked!!!

Well hopefully the guy wasn't blowing smoke up your skirt and if actually runs. But even if it doesn't, still a score for $50.

He was very nice older guy, awesome shop and he showed me around and even his replacement for it on the kart. brand new 670cc predator sitting in box. He wanted to slap on electric start opposed to pull start.. I'm into the fact that it has the cooling fan still attached with belt, and I can use that duster clutch on my other 420cc buggy.. I just verified it has spark... this engine might go into the other buggy too.. pull the 420 for backup engine and some nasty billet internals..

Can't wait to get em running.

Even if engine was blown, the clutch was good deal LOL

Careful, there might be a reason why it wasn't used. Before using it, I would advise you take the engine out and have it running to make sure nothing goes wrong, such as fuel leaks, overheating clutch, etc. I had a find that leaked gas on the muffler.

the sled frame was worn out...the engine and clutches were saved since they were running fine and we're put aside for go kart build... I'm going through engines before even trying to move the buggy under power.. I don't want headaches on the trails

I'm most likely going to do a nice expansion pipe, maybe even two.. got new jets on on the way for carbs with new dual carb throttle cable. I'm gonna pull engine for paint job and planning on tuning and get running beforehand. Pretty looks don't make engines run

Got the buggys pulled out for side by side with new family, bubble bath. The 420cc Predator and 440cc Arctic Cat..

I'm not sure if the Carbs are cleaned properly yet tho on the Odyssey. Couldn't get it to fire with new fresh 2 cycle fuel but could with starting fluid.. so more work ahead.

But got my other buggy cleaned up today too, drained fuel tank, replaced fuel fliters, did carb clean... it screams and ready for the season

Does it stay running after spraying starting fluid, or just turn over and die after its all burnt up?

I managed to stop at my mom's house on the way back from work. I grabbed a couple pictures of the FL350 in the corner of the garage.
