I sanded the brake drum, and bent the band to get a bit more aggressive of a bite.
the friction material is thick and even on the band.

is this as good as it gets?

or other modifications?

new to me, certainly used.

The band was never tight enough to get any wear.
cars weigh more, and have traffic to deal with

but otherwise yeah, this go kart needs 4 wheel disk brakes with abs, and a microprocessor to modulate wheel spin to keep me from sliding in gravel.

haha

No, it locks the rear wheels now, and the cart is stop-able.

do ANY kart builds have front brakes?

Once upon a time i needed a quick, dirty, cheap brake. I had a pile of Chyrsler 727 transmission parts. The solution was to take a transmission drum and band and ghetto fab a band brake. It actualy worked purdy good.

yea, literally every automatic transmission from cars to heavy trucks uses bands to stop the drums and select gear ratios through the planetary
