band brake on a blue clone (HF clone)

hey guys, I'm installing a harbor freight blue clone into a kitty cat snowmobile. I need a mount for a band brake that bolts to the engine. anyone know of one I can buy off the shelf??

Look around for 3/4" bore mounting hubs. And lower res photos would be better. Ones that fit better and allowed complete viewing on one screen.

sorry about the picture size, I'm used to forums that auto resize them. the car in the background is my 28 ford roadster. it's got a 51 flathead in it. It's down for the rest of the summer with a crack in the radiator. @ $650 for a new one I'm going to have to save for a bit.


redsox, I'm not very familiar with what you are referring to. do you mean a mounting hub for a rear axle?? I don't think I'm understanding you correctly.

I got the throttle hooked up and the motor fired with the stock exhaust intake and gas tank this weekend. all of this needs to be removed and custom made to fit the hood back on. should be interesting.

You want to mount a band brake over the clutch drum, correct? There really isn't much fabrication in such a simple bracket, and no such thing is produced AFAIK, so you will have to build one.

that thing is sick! if you put a band brake on clutch and chain snaps, there goes your brakes. what redsox is saying is that you shoud buy a brake drum and put it in the axle that turns the tread, if your using this in the snow i would suggest a better brake then a band

yes, I could fairly easily fab one up. I have seen a picture of a minibike with one that was home made. Was looking for a nice setup that already had the distances figured out. I don't know how far the mounting pin should be from the clutch

the brake band over the clutch drum is the stock setup in this sled. it worked well stock and is the simplest solution. chains are replaced pretty much every year regardless. unless you are on ice this sled will not need much for brakes. once you let off the gas it will stop pretty quickly on it's own.

It's a 1978 kitty cat made by arctic cat snowmobiles. the drive is just like a regular snowmobile, a rubber track.

But you are driving it with a little blue clone? That thing looks fun but easy to tip over. I want way more fun vehicles than I have money for. A snow kart like that, a buggy, who knows what else. Just what ever looks fun.

i have the same problem as you, not enough cash, too many fun vehicles, shopping kart, manual trans mini bike, refrigorator go kart, electric barstool racer, dune buggy, mini snow mobile, 1 person mini sports car, peel p50 replica, i could go on for a while
