Baja... worth it or not?

for a while in my life i always debated getting one of those baja doodle bug mini bikes, and possibly doing a bunch of mods, because it sucks stock. people told me to never trust crap with moving parts from pepboys, and my friend said he knew someone with a baja that blew the motor within the first day, and the replacement lasted 3 days and blew again.

experiences?

I have been into those bikes and pocket bikes for a while now and the only stories i have seen of the engine blowing have been from missuse, there a great mini bike, i only wish i could get one over here

of course it isnt a fair match against a kawasaki or ktm.

i know, some of my friends dont understand, either. he told me to "just" buy a honda. well i dont have 4-5k. forget that, i dont even have $10 right now.
of course his parents bought him a $8,000 250cc dirt bike recently. bugs me he doesnt know what a carbeurator is.

i hate that, story alert!..... so you got a quad, yup my parents got it used for only (insert ridiculous# here), only thing is after riding it for a while it stopped working, i put gas in it but it still doesn't work. five days later.... what happened to your quad? oh i sold it to jimmy for 100 bucks. i go to jimmy's house.... you get that thing running, can i help, no need, i got it running in 2 minutes, some silly person noticed it ran out of gas and put gas in the crank case................ end of story

ok so that's not a true story or likely, yes it is annoying, but its good for those of us that know a carb from a watermelon!

No problem, man. I feel that to drive any sort of vehicle, you should at least have a mediocre understanding of how it works. Im not saying you have to know what a torque converter(car, not kart) does, but at least know how to check oil or put on your spare if you have a blow out. It seems theres a real lack of that now.

yeah most of the time people who have real high end bikes dont know anything about how they work, and their parents pay for it all. most of the time people who actually dont have the money for that do some research and get dirty. like, how i used 4 different motors on my homemade pit bike so far and worked countless hours on each failure. its more how much you learn than disappointment of just wanting something to ride.

anyone who has a bike should at least know what a carburetor does, thats just pathetic.

Id agree. My failure has lead to sucess. Ive found that I value my things wayyyyyyyy more than kids who just had there parents buy them.

I LOVE GARBAGE NIGHTS! People, with zero knowledge, throw out good stuff. My friend races dirtbikes and has for over 10 years, so he has a pretty good knowledge of mechanics. His dad is phenominal with anything that has a motor. We take out his dad's F450 and "shop for $#!+" as we call it. The truck has tool panels on the sides so we can dig into the "trash" we find to see if it's worth loading up. That's where I got my snowblower. It had a stretched belt and the augers didn't spin so it was thrown out.

i had some people over yesterday and they couldn't start a leaf blower, i flipped on the choke (there was a big picture that told you how to start it) started first pull

I know! The belt from the motor pulley to the upward impeller auger, which was on a shaft into the RAGB that turned the main auger, was loose so neither spun when run into snow. It was a jackpot.

ok so my neighbor is terrible at maintaining his property. last week i saw him actually come outside, he looks to have bought.....a......leafblower!!!!

he gave the thing a weak 5 pulls than (exhausted) hauled it back into the garage and gave up. he hasnt come outside since i think lol.

Pocket bikes are sick. I love it because i can do all the things i would never dream of doing on my street bike. I can get my knee down on the pocket bike and it doesnt really matter if i come off. (only a few grazes rather then a hospital visit and thousands of dollars worth of damage if i were to do it on my bike. I wear all my bike gear.)

baja aint a pocket bike, its a mini bike, just to clarify (sorry if you already knew), pocket bikes are more china mass produced

i agree 100%, there are too many people who only know that there car needs gas and they push one pedal to make it go and the other to make it stop.
