Hi everyone, I have a Baja mb200 completely stock (as far as I know) besides from a torque converter. It was working fine one day and then the very next it stopped. At first, I was able to get it to idle, but anytime I gave it gas, it would sputter out immediately. Every once in a while it would backfire too. I've already checked the carb, the spark plug, the torque converter and the air filter but they all look great. I also just gave it some new oil, but to no avail. With the air filter off I was able to get it running and give it some gas by the way. I believe it's running rich but I don't know if I'm right, or what to do if I am. If you've got any ideas they'd be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like carb or timing issues, the backfiring makes me lean toward timing. I had two that had many issues with the original engines and sold them before I knew about predator engines. I suppose you could have sheared the key in the flywheel or chewed the teeth off the cam gear, but take it apart if you're comfortable, and see if there is something visible wrong.

I opened it up and noticed that just one of the teeth on the cam gear was broken and some bits of broken plastic in there. Do you think that could be the problem?

If it's a honda clone you could buy a replacement cam, if it isn't then I'd agree on a predator swap. That may be the cheapest and easiest option.

I replaced baja mb220 plastic cam with a predator 212 cam and it worked perfectly. Predator stock cams are made of metal and cost less then a new motor.

Looks like you need a new camshaft, if you try to reuse I believe more teeth will brake apart. What every you decide be sure to clean ever little piece of debris out of motor.
