does anyone know if a baja mb200 minibike has an alternator and/or battery? I know it has some sort of electrical power because of the headlight

No battery, similar to some karts it has a special flywheel with a set of magnets inside the inner rim that spins past an exciter coil that is screwed to the block. You'll never know its there if it doesn't have the little electrical plug sticking through the front of the shroud.

It only makes the lamp turn on at idle and brightness is higher with rpm.

does that put out enough power to charge a battery for an electric start plus other things

i think that for charging a battery you need a special module that makes the voltage about a constant 13 volts or something, so that at idle youre not putting 6v into the 12v battery.

the headlight on the baja is 12 volts because when i added my battery the headlight was very bright since it was getting 13.5 volts directly from it.

also i am curious to know where you are planning to put a battery and what kind. on mine i swapped out the clone for a tecumseh HM100 10HP. comet 30, and AGM sealed battery.

i went the route for the AGM (glass mat) powersport battery because it can withstand vibrations, its small, light, and can be mounted at any angle without spill. so if i crashed the bike the battery will not leak. but it was $90 at Napa.

I've seen a very cheap 6.5hp engine with electric start and dual alternator which I think is a better option then using the stock engine

that agm battery is a good option and I see with that monstrous 10 hp engine u could still fit that battery. with that torque converter that thing must be dangerously overpowered!!!!
