Greetings all and thanks in advance for your input.

I just bought a used Baja - the camo version. Manufacteded in 2014 I believe.

It’s rougher than advertised, but what’s new?

Problems:
1) It runs ok with choke on, but when I turn the choke off to drive, it will get up to maybe 7-10mph, then stumble, and die. Same thing every time. I took the carb off and did a quick clean with gas and compressed air. Really didn’t notice any blockages. It runs slightly better, but still stumbles and dies.

Any ideas? I know I need to replace the throttle cable, but doesn’t seem like this would be directly related.

2) When I first rode it, it sounded like the clutch was making a loud sound, like it was binding or clanging. Also, when just pushing it, about every 10 feet it would make a loud clanging/chiming sound. I put oil on it like the manual specifies, and this seemed to quiet it. Plan to do a torque converter soon. Should I do anything else?

3) I notice fluid coming out of front forks. I did a fork seal replacement on my KLR, but assume you just buy the new suspension parts with these?

I'd adjust the valves and replace the carb. Ive not had great luck cleaning the carbs on any of these small industrial engine after they have sat too long. The clank every so many feet is probably a chunky spot in the chain. I'd replace that as well. You can get a 5-10 foot roll of #41 chain pretty cheap online or for a little more at tractor supply. If you order online look for pre stretched chain to minimize adjustment after installation.

Might be obvious, but make sure you have fresh gas in it. I would take the tank off and clean it really well to make sure there are no impurities in the tank.

Fresh oil would be good too!

Are you sure you are getting full throttle pull? With it turned off see when you throttle it if it goes all the way like it's supposed to. The screw might be turned in as well to limit for a younger rider.

Yeah...get the torque converter ASAP :D it wakes the bike up

Not sure about this. I believe you can buy the whole new assembly but it is pricey if I remember correctly.

See above

Thanks for your replies.

I’ll check the valves this weekend, change the oil, clean the tank, put in fresh gasolina and consider a carb replacement.

Opinions as to the best torque converter for this bike?

Much obliged
