I WAS PM'D A REQUEST FOR SOME PICS OF THE BRAKE SETUP ON MY KIDS BAJA 6.5 GO KART. I FIGURED I WOULD JUST MAKE A QUICK THREAD SO IF ANYONE ELSE NEEDED IT THEY COULD FIND IT IN THE SEARCH.

QUICK NOTE I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE KARTS IN THE PHOENIX AREA IT IS A VERY SIMPLE DESIGN WITH SWING ARM SUSPENSION IN THE REAR, HAS A LIVE AXLE, AND SINGLE REAR DISC BRAKE. ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE THE MOST ON THIS KART IS THE FACT THAT THE CONTROLS ARE ON THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE FORM OF BIKE BRAKE LEVERS RIGHT SIDE IS GAS AND LEFT IS THE REAR BRAKE SO MY KIDS CAN ALL RIDE IT, HECK I HAVE RIDDEN IT AND I AM 6'6" IT IS A LITTLE CRAMPED FOR ME BUT EASY TO CONTROL AS I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SCRUNCHING TO REACH THE PEDALS.

I HAVE A 6.5 PREDATOR WITH AN OLD NASTY CLUTCH THAT WAS ON IT AND IT SCOOTS ABOUT 35-40 MPH WITH THE KIDS ON IT AND HANDLES DECENT AT BEST BUT IT IS A BLAST AND SIMPLE.

ANY HOW HERE ARE SOME PICS
THIS IS THE CART, SINCE THE LAST PIC OF THE CART I DID UPGRADE THE REAR WHEELS GOT THEM OFF A QUAD THAT I GOT FOR FREE ON CRAIGS LIST HAD TO MAKE ADAPTERS TO GE THEM ON THERE BUT THE KID LOVES IT AND GIVES IT A RAKED LOOK WITH MORE CLEARANCE FOR THE SPROCKET - AND MADE IT A LITTLE FASTER HEHE!

THIS IS THE DISC BRAKE SET UP, I FOUND THAT I COULD NOT FIND JUST THE BRAKE PADS AS WHEN I GOT MINE THE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT I HAD TO BUY A WHOLE CALIPER IT WAS ONLY 15 SHIPPED BUT STILL THOUGHT THAT WAS ODD

ANOTHER OF CALIPER
20140520_213721.jpg
HERE IS ONE FROM THE TIRE SIDE, AS YOU CAN SEE THERE IS A ONE PIECE HUB FOR THE WHEEL AND FOR THE BRAKE ROTOR THIS HUB IS IDENTICAL TO THE OTHER SIDE WHERE THE SPROCKET ATTACHES

HOPE THIS HELPS SOME IF ANY MORE QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW WILL DO WHAT I CAN TO HELP:cheers2:

I bought the caliper on ebay, i measured the distance between the bolts and i think it was 2 inches and than looked thru the descriptions and found one that stated the dimiensions it was a quick find on that,

SEARCH EBAY FOR THIS ITEM# 251507295587 THIS IS THE ONE I GOT $15 FREE SHIPPING

the wheel adaptors were a different story the quad tires are 3 bolt but bigger circle pattern, i had to get 2 1/4" plate steel circles cut out for each side one was 4.25" and one was 3.5" i then used a 1.25 sched 40 steel pipe cut about 2 inches and welded and drilled, i did it with a small drill press and i will just tell you know it was a pain in the but. You see it is very, very, very hard to get the center hole centered exactly and then get the three other holes exactly lined up, i used up several plates and one side is still not 100%. If i had a lathe to just put a 4.25 diameter steel or aluminum i could bang it out in no time and it would be perfect but i dont so i had to do it the hardway but it did work there is a tiny bit of wobble on accell on left rear but it looks cool and gives better clearance. I am planning to do the front but for those i will have to find a lathe and make a new hub that will fit the wheel but that is for later on it is good for know.

Ohhh thank you for the reply. Looks like IO might ditch the wheel hub idea:ack2:

The caliper I don't think I will get because that appears to be like the one on my mini bike and is a little sketchy for weighted riders. looks like I will try something else.

It is small and in my opinion works mediocre at best but it does stop the cart so i will leave it be it is my youngest daughters cart and we normally ride it in the open dirt areas so the worst that can happen is a cactus mishap, and lets be honest at that point we are talking about a life lesson hehe:auto:

:funnypost: Ya moved out of Gilbert AZ about 3 years ago and when riding my dirt bike I learned about the jumping cactus. I still have about 27 little red dot scars left on me from yanking them out.

So I think I will use this.. brake. I was riding the mini bike pretty rough, and did so high speed braking. It did fair. I Will mount the one from the mini bike on for mock up tomorrow. I think I will a caliper on each side of rear axle for Dual brakes. Thanks for the enlightenment.
It does get the job done.
