I have a Briggs and Stratton engine I think it is around 5 hp. Then mounted on it I have a centrifugal clutch... When the engine gains rpm and the clutch has sufficient speed to engage, it won't engage. It is a fairly new clutch. anyone know whats wrong?

thanks all,

Nik

your clutch is prob stuck, or the springs are too tight. if that doesn't work make sure your engine is spinning at at-least 3000 rpm

you could either pull out a couple coils on the spring or just buy new springs from some place like bmi

This clutch has one continuous spring... how would i pull a couple coils wouldn't that make it tighter?

What are the size of the tires on this kart and what size sprocket/pitch count are you using to compliment this clutch and 5hp Briggs?

I'd be curious to see your ratio assuming your engine is revving to the rate it would need to engage fully. The spring may not be the issue.

I'm pretty sure its not the ratio because it was working just fine... the clutch doesn't even begin to engage, which leads me to believe it has internal problems.
