I'm part way through building a backwards trike style kart. It's powered by a moped engine and drivetrain, this has been used by simply taking the rear of the moped and adding a new front end with two steerable wheels to create the trike design. Does anyone have any eperience of this kind of thing?

yes there are a few people on here that have built reverse trikes. they seem pretty easy just make sure you have good welds and everything is in place.

Ah good.. I'll have a look out for them. Yeah, it's going fairly easily. I'm not using welds for the frame on this project, I've been experimenting with L-shaped dexion steel and using bolts to hold the frame together, this makes quite a difference if things don't quite work out, it's really simple to modify or change the design.

I would make sure that you have more then 1/2 the weight over the front wheels.

ver easy to build basically the front end would be constructed as if you were building a go kart and a rear swing arm set up improves handling and weight distribution alot.

That's basically what I've got done so far :D and the swing arm on the moped rear end is quite a good feature too. Should be good on tarmac as I'm using the existing road tyre. it's a 50cc engine, any ideas about how fast this will go?

If you give your engine a bigger carburetor, you might get 50mph I think...

thanks iRenaa, 50 sounds good! I will have a look at options for improving or changing the carb. Also, I think you can buy new cylinder heads and pisotons to take it up to 70cc, as this is a moped and there is quite a market selling moped modification parts.
