I picked up a Briggs 8hp(model 190402) off of Craigslist for $10. I thought it might be worth it as the guy claimed all that it needed was a carb. The carb fell apart and a new one is 124 bucks! Ouch. Anyone have any experience with these motors and carbs? It's probably not worth messing with. I'll post pics later.

It is a monster.

Pretty big motor but not that heavy. I wonder what the torque is like.
"Torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there.

Don't know.

whats wrong with it? Clean it.

I don't know what is wrong with it just yet, I'll have to test it. I know it needs a carb or a rebuild. The former owner said that they could squirt gas into the cylinder and it would "pop". It looks intriguing enough for me to work on but I'm more motivated to hook up the HF clone to the Kart right now.

These things have stupid amounts of torque. You'll love it. I ran one with a 3>1 ratio and 16" wheels, and although the clutch burned up, this thing would spin them crazy in the dirt and had great acceleration.

You ran an old 8 hp? It looks like a torque monster judging from the size of the motor, the piston must be huge. the motor must have originally come off a snow blower or something. You're right about the wheels & tires, I pulled the motor off a kart that had large wheels & tires. The guy let me separate the motor from the kart.

Yeah- I ran it on the 1st Lowrider, right about the time I joined this forum. The carb was pretty iffy, and I still hit 51mph with it. I think it's 308cc, which is quite a slugger. It shook my kart apart (admittedly light duty) and the thing flew with it on. A B/S 8hp and torque-converter would be quite the set up.

We have one on our logsplitter, almost 40 years old, burns A LOT of 20-50 but it ALWAYS starts with the fine platinium tipped spark plug(out of a car with some spacers, this thing will fire through ANYTHING).
