B&S 6 hp OHV

Greetings and salutations.

I recently picked up a couple of yard carts for my sons. Both have the old standard 5 hp flathead briggs.

Of course, nostalgia has set in and I want to build myself something unique.

I've got an old power washer with a bad pump. It has a Briggs and Stratton 6hp OHV engine. Has a 3/4" horizontal shaft, so it would work for a kart.

I'm wondering if there is any aftermarket for this engine, though. I'd like to ditch the governor, but make it safe to do so.

If y'all need the numbers off of the motor, I can grab them.

Sup wevie, Grats on the Karts! Your kids are going to remember these days forever I suggest you adjust the governor instead of removing it and if you do remove it have an adjustable throttle stop. This will keep them from running into vehicles or fences or other karts >.> <.< If you want it faster some performance upgrades will get you to the governors max rpm quicker. But yea some pictures of it all, numbers we know and parts are plenty for either engines.

Oh, let me clarify. ..

The boys are fine with the stock flathead.

I want to build something for myself with more. .. bling. Not concerned with fast per se... Just say a header, slide carb, billet rod for safe high rim use.

I suggest you adjust the governor instead of removing it and if you do remove it have an adjustable throttle stop.

Umm, no & no...

Have you ever seen what happens when a governor explodes? I have & it's not pretty. If you want more RPM, remove the governor completely (meaning, internals); the engine (with stock valve springs) will then be safe up to around 5000rpm when valve bounce kicks in...

Throttle stops destroy clutches because they can't fully lock due to decreased RPM...

/sigh that's why you adjust the throttle -.- ... if governors failed with such catastrophic results we would see a lot of constantly recalled engines. Fact is the first thing to break on the governor is the plastic teeth on its gear causing it to simply stop spinning. I have broken plenty to know what to do and not to do. They are adjustable for a reason. Because they can handle it, to a point. You don't want to bend the idle arm further than factory, that pushes the governor passed it's own limit. If your governor ever "explodes" send me a message and proof. Shoot! Blow one up intentionally and I will send you a new engine free.

Governor is a kill joy, so simple remove why hold down your torque and hp? Just take it out, you get to see the conditions of your motor and the oil has to be changed anyway. Easier to do maintenance on a workbench and inspect motor.

I see hop up parts for the Animal, but not really seeing anything listed specifically for the Intek. Are the essentially the same and bolt-ons would be compatible?

Most Animal parts will work in an Intek

but Animal pistons won't if you have a Kool Bore Intek

Proof enough? The governor was attached & intact before this disaster but, the engine decided to over rev anyway...

LoL not at all. It didn't destroy anything but itself. Totally different engine. It still ran with it broken. Adjust the governor for kids or remove it and add a throttle stop AND adjust till clutch engages and dis-engages properly. It's for the kids not running at 5k while cutting grass and pushing the mower.
Wevie hasn't asked and this isn't my thread so I won't talk about it anymore unless HE asks

Have you looked at the predator 212's. I bought one brand new last week for just over $100 shipped. Another $100 will get you a parts kit from OMB and put you at around 9hp. The governor is still intact at this point so if you want to further boost it, billet flywheels and rods are widely available online.
