wanted to build a go kart before, changed plans to mini bike due to money lol. will buy the azusa mini bike kit, use the new harbor freight predator 6.5hp 212cc engine. don't know how high the rpm's are, it doesn't state it on the website. kit comes with 72t sprocket. three options for wheel size, 5,6,or 8 i think, help me choose. also need a 3/4 shaft clutch. dont know how many teeth i should get. want average pick up speed and don't want top speed to take too long to get to. will paint frame gloss black, rims same gloss black or maybe just leave it chrome. how fast do you think this will be? please reply with answers, opinions, stuff you would change. sorry for bad grammar, typing this on smartphone. thanksssssssss:thumbsup:

the engine goes to 3600 maybe 3700 or 3800 with the throttle stop screw loosened.

play around with some ratios. keep in mind that if your wheel is 5 inches and the sprocket is 4.75 inches or so, youre going to hit it on the ground leaning on a turn. thats bad.

how fast do you want to go? remember the more speed, the less acceleration.

plus the chain adds a little bit to the size.. id def go 8, or at the very least 6. Also are you planning on doing any mods to the engine?? Removing the governor, straightpipe, airfilter are the most noticeable (visably) and those should be just fine performance wise also.

There is always the option of a Torque Converter, although pricey it gives you the opportunity to have more than one ratio depending on the situation. when you first start riding it will be in low gear, giving you a low ratio, giving you good acceleration. then as you get up to speed it will change into higher gears and give you a good top speed.

thanks! will use the 8 inch wheels, dont wan't to remove governor cause of warrenty and more problems. want to do straight pipe muffler, and put an air filter. no torque convertor, too much $$. with the 72t sprocket, how much teeth you think i should get on the clutch? want top speed around 30-35. and decent acceleration, not toooo slow pick-up
thanks

for you to get that speed with a top engine you will need some kind of jackshaft or a smaller back sprocket. i was plugging some numbers into the speed calculator and with the regular clutch teeth sizes (10-15) i only got speeds of under 15mph. you may be able to get more than that as it is only theoretical but realisticaly you will need some kind of jackshaft to mess with the gearing a bit, or just try it stock and see what happens.

If governor will not be removed, there is no point in using a straight pipe or changing the filter. Very little (if any) change in performance will be realized. 3600 rpm is 3600 rpm.
It will only be a noise maker. Great for boosting testosterone levels...nothing more.

lol thanks guys, if i was to remove the governor, would i need other parts in for example new and better cams and i heard people talking about a spring to put inside the engine when the governor is removed.

If you're sitting on top of a Chicom clone with no governor, be sure to wear a cup.

with a Chinese engine without a governor u need an aluminum flywheel. going to higher rpms is a recipe for danger. its about 100 bucks.

Hmmm...
My clone hasnt blown up, and I have never known anyone personally or on a forum that has blown a clone from just removing the governor. Revving 5k and 10k are two totally do
different stories...
We are just talking removing the governor for now, no other mods.
The stock rod will blow before the flywheel- bad advice telling them to upgrade the wheel before the rod IMO.

Just don't go revving it with no load- BAD IDEA!
Now lets not get this thread turned into another clone bashing flywheel rumor thread.

no I like clones but I have heard a few incidents where the flywheel went bang an it didn't end to well but that was on clones with other mods an occasionally raced so u be fine with it being close to stock an stock flywheel. just my 2 cents.
