Does anyone have any experience adding length to an Azusa go cart frame for an adult rider? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

Seems to me like it would take a bit of rework, since the frames are wedge shaped, it's not as simple as just cut, sleeve, weld. The angles would go all wonky when you splice in extra material. You'd pretty much have to completely remove the lower rail, lengthen the bottom and top separately, and then reattach it to the the top rail, adjusting the angles accordingly. Perhaps heating the bend on the lower tube with a torch and tweaking it back a bit straighter would suffice. If you were careful, you might be able to do it without deforming the cross section.

Either that or cut the lower tube right at the back, ahead of the axle hangers, but behind the bend, where the tubes still run parallel and lengthen it there, then lengthen the upper rails somewhere ahead of the cross member where the engine plate attaches.

I’ve no experience lengthening the frame but it appears to be easy as pie.

Looks like he/she used oversized tubing to sleeve it together. Not my method of choice for aesthetics, but certainly functional.

The frame design itself is rather industrial-looking from the get-go (it is no thing of beauty) so in my opinion it is not harmed by lengthening it in that fashion.

Those kart photos, taken in the sunlight and the frame coated in metallic blue paint; the lengthened area seems rather well concealed (hidden in plain sight?)... well to a neophyte anyway. You have to know where to look.

Azusa project

Thanks for the input guys. I like the stretched blue one. Looks fairly simple. I was thinking maybe I could just weld a couple of hoops on to the front for a place to mount the peddles. Like in the first pic. Sorry it took so long to reply, I’ve been very busy at work lately. I’ll share some pics of the Azusa project soon.
